We all love a nice, tasty snack. Unfortunately, most snacks out there are either unhealthy or contain non-vegetarian components. Vegetarian snacks are generally healthier, as they are usually less processed, and are rich in many naturally occurring vitamins and nutrients.

Indian cuisine, in particular, features a large number of these healthy vegetarian snacks. If you are looking to find some good options to spice up your diet, you need look no further than the following four. They are healthy, vegetarian, and a delight to the taste buds!

1.     Black Flame Raisins

These raisins are widely consumed as a stand-alone snack, and can also be used as an ingredient for baking. They are basically dried flame grapes, and are known for being the juiciest and sweetest raisin variety out there. Raisins are rich in vitamins, minerals and fibre, and help to promote both eye and oral health, as well as the digestive system.

2.     Goji Berries

This sweet and sour tasting berry is best known for its extensive medicinal properties. Studies have shown that when Goji berries are taken as a supplement to flu shots, they are effective at increasing resistance to the flu. Among its impressive qualities, goji berries are surprisingly rich in protein for a fruit.

A 1-ounce serving will provide as much as 10% of the daily protein requirement for a human adult. You must however consult your doctor before adding goji berries to your diet, as they may not combine well with certain medications.

3.     Golden Raisins

Golden raisins contain many of the same health benefits as black flame raisins. They are high in minerals such as calcium, iron and boron, as well as fibre, and vitamin C. They can be eaten as a stand-alone snack or combined with other common snacks such as yogurt or cereal.

4.     Pitted prunes

Prunes contain a cocktail of essential minerals, nutrients and vitamins that aid in the functioning of the human body. They contain fibre and potassium both of which aid the digestive system, while potassium also has benefits for the cardiovascular, muscular, and nervous systems. Prunes also contain vitamins K, A, B-6, riboflavin and niacin.
