Saffron

Saffron is one of the most precious spices in the world. Derived by drying the stigma of the flower Saffron Crocus and retailing for more than $500 an ounce, it’s expensive but it is a labour-intensive crop. More than 80,000 crocus flowers must be grown, cared for, hand-harvested and processed just to make one pound! The spice can be used as a colouring agent in sweets as well as Kheers.

Green Cardamom

This small seed pod is one of the most used spices for flavouring. It is versatile and can be used to flavour anything from a cup pf water to Indian Chai tea. It has a very nice aroma and also used in medicine to treat infections of the teeth and gums.

Coriander Powder

Coriander is a herb with a sweet aroma and is an essential item in every single household (Indian or otherwise!) It’s a staple in any home that loves to make deals and curries. One of the great things about this spice is its ability to make a dish seem lighter. You can also use coriander leaves as a garnish as well!

Cumin

In Indian kitchens, cumin is widely used as a flavouring agent or condiment in particular dishes. All curries and dals, again, will contain cumin. You only ever need a small amount to really enhance a
dish!
